Rights - The American government guarantees freedom and protects individual rights.

Responsibilities - The choices individuals make may impact their rights.

Respect - Understanding the relationship between RIGHTS and RESPONSIBILITIES leads to RESPECT.

Exercising personal freedom can be challenging when for individuals with an intellectual disability or mental illness.

Guardians or other people sometimes limit the rights of individuals with disabilities to make choices.

Without a basic understanding of civil rights, individuals with intellectual disabilities or mental illness may have little control over their lives.

Helping individuals with disabilities preserve their civil is one of the most important ways to help protect the individual.

Helping individuals learn to make responsible choices helps assure their rights are respected.

This exciting new DVD and the accompanying handbook are designed to help individuals with intellectual disabilities and the people who help support them to recognize the connections between rights, responsibilities and respect.

The DVD features self-advocates and others who serve as narrators and actors.

The handbook provides discussion questions for additional interactive exercises.
